
Kelantan deputy menteri besar Fadzli Hassan said such visits may be risky.
“We do know that a lot of Kelantanese go over to Sungai Golok to buy food or to break fast with family and friends every Ramadan. But it’s better we go back to our kampungs or gather at home to break fast together,” he said today.
He said the people should be mindful of their safety and be cautious in deciding whether to go across the border.
Postpone visits, says foreign ministry
The foreign ministry has also urged Malaysians to postpone non-essential visits to Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces in South Thailand.
Malaysians currently in these provinces were advised to register their presence with the Malaysian consulate-general in Songkhla.
Thailand’s defence ministry has given an assurance that security agencies will do their utmost to ensure the safety of the people in southern Thailand following the bombing and shooting incidents on Saturday evening.
Five people were killed and 13 injured in bombing and shooting incidents in Narathiwat and Pattani provinces.
A Thai army spokesman said the army chief had called for efforts to improve security and swift action to track down the perpetrators.
