The wing’s deputy chief, Juwairiya Zulkifli, dismissed the claim, saying that leadership styles vary among individuals, and that it is unfair to make comparisons with previous leaders.
Juwairiya said various programmes and activities have been carried out at the grassroots level by the current leadership, consistent with PKR’s role in the government.
“Every leader has their own approach, and under the current leadership, party activism continues with many activities even though the pace and vibe may not be the same as before.
“The perception of (Wanita PKR being lethargic) arises when people compare the current movement of the women’s wing to previous leaders, who were long involved in the party’s struggles,” she told FMT.
However, she acknowledged that the current leadership does have room for improvement.
“This leadership can be further improved, whether it is with the current team or future leaders.
“In fact, with the current leadership, the women’s wing continues to grow although at a slower pace,” she said.
Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail previously announced that she was considering contesting the Wanita PKR chief’s post again after stating that the wing has become “lethargic”.
Juwairiya, the former Bukit Melawati assemblyman, did not rule out the possibility of defending her position as deputy Wanita PKR at the party elections in May.
In the previous elections, she won the post in a three-way contest against Napsiah Khamis and Faizah Ariffin.
