Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said Bukit Aman’s classified crime investigation unit initiated a probe after a report was lodged yesterday in Pahang, Berita Harian reported.
However, the suspect may be overseas, Razarudin said.
“Based on the police report, the video was uploaded yesterday and was later deleted following a backlash as it contained offensive language and insults levelled at Muslims.
“We take such matters, which can threaten harmony and public order, seriously,” he was quoted as saying.
Razarudin added that the case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code for inciting racial and religious disharmony.
It is also being probed for improper use of network facilities or services.
Razarudin said the video may be in response to an earlier video featuring three DJs who courted controversy for mocking the Thaipusam kavadi ritual.
Last night, the Islamic development department (Jakim) lodged an official complaint with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission over a social media post deemed offensive to Islam.
Jakim director-general Sirajuddin Suhaimee said a police report had also been lodged to ensure firm action would be taken against the person responsible for the post.
Jakim, however, did not identify the said controversial video.
