PETALING JAYA:
The integrity units of public universities and higher education institutions under the higher education ministry will be placed under the universities’ boards of directors as an independent entity to strengthen governance and integrity, says minister Zambry Abdul Kadir.

Bernama reported him as saying this is to ensure transparency in governance and effective integrity monitoring, following reports of related issues in some universities.

“It is crucial to place integrity units under the universities’ boards of directors as there is currently no uniformity in staffing, with some units placed under the authority of the vice-chancellor and deputy vice-chancellor,” he said at a press conference today.

Zambry also said the integrity units need more personnel, particularly in bigger institutions.

“Some units operate with only one or two staff. Given the thousands of students and staff to oversee, at least seven officers are needed to carry out the duties effectively.”
