Fadillah said this was because the opposition had not yet submitted an official document outlining their proposals.
“I can only establish a committee at both the government and opposition levels once I receive the proposal. Then, we can begin discussions.
“But at this point, what is there to discuss?
“They (opposition MPs) have spoken to the media but have not taken any concrete action. So I cannot do anything,” he said after an event with his Petra Jaya parliamentary constituents today, Bernama reported.
Fadillah previously said the committee was needed to carefully assess opposition proposals and reach a comprehensive, consensus-based solution.
Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin has said that Perikatan Nasional would send a letter to Fadillah to seek confirmation on whether the party is required to submit a formal request for the formation of the committee.
Yesterday, PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin said it was “unnecessary” to set up a committee to discuss allocations for opposition MPs.
“Do you need another big meeting as if approving a billion-dollar allocation? It’s a very small token sum, just be fair to us because we have dignity,” Muhyiddin said after officiating a panel discussion on the Bumiputera economy.
“We’ve made our decision, so it’s up to the government.”
