In a statement, the chief minister’s office said the extension was granted due to the positive response received during the initial waiver period, which began in January and was scheduled to end today.
The office said the full waiver would be automatically applied to all land and parcel owners with tax arrears, including those slapped with a Penalty Notice 6A (land tax) or Penalty Notice 11 (parcel tax).
“However, the offer does not apply to those who pay in instalments. The offer is also not retrospective and cannot be enjoyed by land or parcel owners who paid their arrears before this date of exemption,” it said.
It said the state’s land and mines office received 17,168 arrear payments of land and parcel tax during the exemption period between Jan 2 and Feb 21, an increase of 14% from the same period in 2024.
The state government received a total of RM4.4 million from the collection.
On Dec 26 last year, the state offered a full waiver of penalties for the late payment of quit rent if property owners paid their arrears by Feb 28, 2025.
It also announced a 50% discount on penalties for those who pay their arrears between March 1 and May 31.
Payments can be made at district land offices or online through the PgLAND web portal. For more details, affected land and parcel owners can contact the Penang land and mines office or their district land offices.
