PETALING JAYA:
A DAP MP has dismissed former law minister Zaid Ibrahim’s criticism of the proposed Parliamentary Services Bill 2025, saying it was just the first step towards establishing a truly independent Parliament, and not the last.

Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan admitted that the draft of the bill was not perfect, but said it can be improved on and that there were people actively working on enhancing it.

“There are individuals who genuinely care about these reforms and are working on enhancing the bill both publicly and behind the scenes. I respect and value the opinions of these people.” he said in a swipe at Zaid, whom he accused of being just “happy to criticise” the government.

“There can be more improvements, but what the bill sets out to do is clear to someone with even a rudimentary knowledge of legal provisions.

“If we wait for Zaid’s so-called perfectly drafted bill, we will never take any step towards a truly independent and empowered Parliament,” he said in a statement.

Earlier today, Zaid said the bill was poorly drafted and gave no clue whatsoever about its purpose.

He also said it lacked any improvements or critical insights into what the legislative arm needed to achieve its intended objective of independence from the executive.
