Man ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation after parang attack on dad

PETALING JAYA:
A man who hacked his father on the head with a parang on Monday has been ordered to undergo psychiatric evaluation after pleading guilty in the Kangar sessions court today.

Anuar Halim, 45, nodded in acknowledgement after the charge was read to him before judge Nu’aman Mahmud Zuhudi, Utusan Malaysia reported.

He was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code with intentionally causing grievous hurt to his father, Halim Lebai Othman, 74, using a parang.

The offence took place at a house in Kampung Padang Besar Selatan, Kuala Perlis, at 5pm on Monday.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Nabilah Ahmad Po’ad, while National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Mohd Hapiz Rajali represented the accused.

The court set March 28 for further mention of the case..

During the proceedings, Nabilah informed the court that Anuar is a registered person with disabilities under the welfare department.

She requested that he undergo a one-month psychiatric evaluation, which the court later granted.

It is understood that Anuar will be referred to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan, Perak, for further assessment.
