Secondary school student dies after cross-country run

PETALING JAYA:
A 16-year-old secondary school student died after taking part in a school cross-country run in Kedah today.

According to Harian Metro, Haziq Uzayr Hairuddin collapsed upon reaching the finish line of the 6km run.

Kuala Muda police chief Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said the teacher on duty and several students from the Red Crescent Society took Haziq to a nearby tent and provided first aid.

“However, the student showed no response when first aid was provided. The teacher called an ambulance and the student was taken to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital,” he said.

However, Haziq died on the way to the hospital.

Wan Azharuddin said Haziq’s father told them his son was healthy, active in sports and did not suffer from any illnesses.

He also said the father gave written permission for Haziq to take part in the sporting event.

He said early examination of the body found no elements of foul play.
