PETALING JAYA: Five men have been fined RM2,000 each after pleading guilty to assaulting a mentally disabled man at a farmers’ market in Chukai, Terengganu, last month.
Another man claimed trial in the Kemaman magistrates’ court, district police chief Razi Rosli said in a statement.
The five who pleaded guilty have paid their fines.
Razi said the six men were charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code with voluntarily causing hurt, an offence punishable by a maximum one year in prison, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
The mentally disabled man was assaulted after his motorcycle collided with a stall at the farmers’ market, causing several items to topple to the ground.
The victim was dragged, kicked, and beaten before fried noodles were poured over his head.
