Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Azam Baki said an investigation is being held following the arrest of the four aides, Berita Harian reported.
“Several more people will definitely be called in to (give their statements) because the investigation is ongoing. These witnesses will be summoned soon,” he was quoted as saying.
He declined to comment on reports that a hefty sum of money was found stashed in the home of one of the suspects who were arrested.
The money was reportedly kept in multiple bags and safes in several rooms. MACC officers also seized jewellery, documents and electronic devices.
MACC is said to be looking into the source of the money and a “key figure” who is believed to have played a role in the matter of the seized funds.
Yesterday, Harian Metro reported that MACC had arrested four officers linked to former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Azam later confirmed the arrests and said the case was being investigated under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act, which deals with soliciting and accepting bribes.
Last year, MACC began a probe into RM700 million allegedly used for promotional and publicity purposes to showcase the government’s achievements during the two previous administrations, from 2020 to 2022.
