Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim said a report was lodged at 2.11pm by a representative of the tournament’s organiser.
“The incident was sparked by an argument between two contestants, whose participation in the tournament was cancelled by the organiser because their opponents were sick and did not show up.
“The two had started arguing and challenging each other to a fight in the ring. This led to a brawl between their supporters, who even threw chairs at each other,” he said in a statement.
He said one of the contestants, aged 45, was injured and taken to hospital, where he is in stable condition.
Two individuals, aged 45 and 40, were arrested at 5.20pm following the police report. Checks found that both had criminal records but they tested negative for drugs.
They have been remanded until tomorrow to assist in the investigation being held under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with a weapon.
The offence is punishable by a maximum jail term of five years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
