PETALING JAYA:
Eighty-six government agencies recorded cumulative losses of RM2.8 billion in 2023, says Auditor-General (A-G) Wan Suraya Wan Radzi.

Wan Suraya said the audit report on the 2023 financial statements of federal agencies found that 59 agencies had 217 subsidiary companies with investments totalling RM65.1 billion.

She said 131 of these subsidiaries recorded profits in 2023, but 86 saw RM2.81 billion in losses, Bernama reported.

“Only 81 subsidiary companies paid dividends totalling RM2.829 billion to 32 agencies, including 14 companies that paid RM1.432 billion despite recording losses,” she said.

The A-G also said 142 federal agencies held RM2.696 trillion in assets and RM871 billion in liabilities in 2023, although five agencies had liabilities exceeding their assets.

She said 98 government agencies received RM33.62 billion in grants from Putrajaya, while 97 had RM21.39 billion in development grant balance.

“Twenty agencies had loans amounting to RM126.56 billion from the federal government and financial institutions, including five with government-guaranteed loans worth RM99.058 billion.

“Four agencies took new loans amounting to RM7.309 billion in 2023,” she said.

Wan Suraya added that three agencies had yet to submit their financial statements for 2023 to the department: the Labuan Financial Services Authority, Labuan FSA Staff Welfare Fund, and South Kelantan Development Authority.
