A report by the Malay daily quoted a source as saying that remand orders were obtained at the Putrajaya magistrates’ court on Friday.
The source said magistrate Irza Zulaikha granted a five-day remand order for three of the officers. However, the fourth officer was remanded for three days and has been released today.
The anti-graft agency’s chief commissioner Azam Baki also confirmed the arrests to Harian Metro and said that the case is being investigated under Section 16(a) of the MACC Act.
“We urge the public to allow the MACC to conduct its investigation without speculation,” he was quoted as saying.
Last year, the MACC began a probe into the RM700 million allegedly used for promotional and publicity purposes to showcase the government’s achievements during the two previous administrations from 2020 to 2022.
MACC was seeking to discover how the money was spent, and has already called up the companies which received the funds from the government.
