The party Supreme Council member, who is also Machang MP, could garner only 26 votes, trailing far behind Kamaruddin Ab Kadir, who won with 103.

Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal won the Machang parliamentary seat in the 2022 general election, where he contested under the PAS banner.
PETALING JAYA:
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal, the MP for Machang, was soundly defeated in the race to become the head of Bersatu’s Machang division today.

The Bersatu Supreme Council member could garner only 26 votes at the divisional elections, far behind Kamaruddin Ab Kadir, who defended the post with 103 votes.

Malaysiakini quoted Amirul Fahmi Mazlan Kushairi, the secretary of Bersatu’s election committee, as confirming the result of the divisional polls.

Wan Fayhsal was formerly the head of Bersatu’s youth wing and was elected to the party’s 20-member Supreme Council during the party election last November.

A former senator, Wan Fayhsal is serving his first term as Machang MP. He won the Kelantan seat in the 2022 general election (GE15) with a convincing majority of 10,154 votes over his closest rival, Kelantan Umno chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub.

He and other Bersatu candidates who were fielded in the PAS-led state of Kelantan had contested under the PAS banner.

Wan Fayhsal was previously deputy youth and sports minister in the Muhyiddin Yassin administration before becoming deputy unity minister in the Ismail Sabri Yaakob government.
