The accused, whose real name is Abdurrahman Abdullah, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him before judge Mujib Saroji, Berita Harian reported.
According to the first charge, Abdurrahman, 33, along with two accomplices who are still at large, allegedly fired a gun at a 37-year-old female victim at 12.17pm on Feb 10.
In the second charge, he was jointly accused with his accomplices of firing a gun at Ahmad Fadhullah Mohamed, 38, at the same time and place.
The charges were framed under Section 307 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 109 of the same Act, which carries a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment and a fine, upon conviction.
The prosecution was led by prosecuting officer Suniza Nan Yan while the accused was represented by Tan Chow Teng.
Suniza requested that bail be denied, citing the seriousness of the offence, which involved the use of a firearm, and that the incident had gone viral.
Tan, however, appealed for a small bail amount, arguing that the accused, who works as a catering employee, is taking care of an ailing relative and also supports his sister.
The judge ruled that no bail would be granted to the accused, citing public interest and the fact that he is still facing other ongoing cases.
