MBPP said the 10am operation saw all five premises ordered to close for 14 days from today.
They found the eateries were functioning under generally unhygienic conditions. They discovered cockroach infestations and rat droppings at these places.
“The owner of one of the five premises inspected also had no valid business licence from MBPP,” the city council told FMT.
The state immigration department also arrested 19 foreigners – 14 women and five men – working illegally at the premises. They had no valid documents, had overstayed or misused their social visit passes.
“MBPP will continue holding joint operations with the Penang immigration department during our inspections on businesses which have foreign traders or workers.
“MBPP will also guide traders to comply with the regulations set by the council, the immigration department and other agencies,” it said.
