Cops nab suspect in Yong Peng tanker hijacking

The suspect, who has a record of 13 criminal and drug-related offences, was caught while driving the stolen vehicle.

PETALING JAYA:
A 41-year-old man was arrested less than two hours after stealing a palm oil tanker that had been parked along Jalan Labis-Yong Peng in Batu Pahat.

Batu Pahat police chief Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani said the tanker’s owner lodged a report after discovering that his vehicle was missing after parking it along Jalan Labis-Yong Peng, Sinar Harian reported.

“A team of officers and members from the Tangkak traffic investigation and enforcement department successfully located the stolen truck in Sungai Rambai, Jasin, Melaka, at 10.50am,” he was quoted as saying in a statement today.

“The suspect who was driving the vehicle was detained at the scene.”

Shahrulanuar said the suspect had a record of 13 criminal and drug-related offences, and tested positive for methamphetamine.

“He has been remanded for three days until tomorrow,” he said.

“The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for motor vehicle theft and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.”
