KUALA LUMPUR:
The Japanese government has given a grant of US$95,000 (RM413,300) to The Lost Food Project, an NGO that tackles food waste.

The grant, which comes under Japan’s grassroots human security projects (GGP), was presented by Noriyuki Shikata, the Japanese ambassador to Malaysia.

Shikata said The Lost Food Project would utilise the grant to equip two trucks with refrigeration facilities.

“These trucks will be able to improve food distribution for low-income communities,” he said when announcing the grant at an event here.

Shikata said the initiative would also reduce food waste and promote healthy eating habits.

Excluding today’s grant, a total of RM19.9 million was awarded for 161 GGP projects throughout Malaysia between 1989 and January this year.
