KLANG:
The gunman in the Setia City Mall shooting was involved in five other crimes before he was shot dead in Pulau Ketam this morning, says Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan.

He said the man in his mid-30s, whom he referred to only as “Ah Boy”, was involved in extortion and robbery after the shooting, as well as a house break-in and the theft of a motorcycle.

“The suspect travelled to Melaka, Banting, and Sabak Bernam, finally putting up for the night at a hotel in Pulau Ketam.

“The suspect committed 15 crimes in total — nine crimes before the Setia City Mall shooting and five after,” he told a press conference at the Pulau Ketam jetty.

He said the suspect’s body would be brought to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang for a post-mortem.

Hussein said further details of the suspect’s identity and crimes would be revealed after the post-mortem.

He did not deny the possibility that the suspect had been planning to rob a store in Setia City Mall.

The suspect had fired several shots at a janitor in the incident on Feb 8, injuring him in the legs. He also held a family at gunpoint, forcing them to drive him out of the mall before escaping.

Hussein said the suspect’s first crime was recorded in 2014, involving both solo activities and small group offences. However, he had been acting alone since the middle of last year.
