BN man proposes 2-day public holiday for Aidiladha

Jempol MP Shamshulkahar Deli says the current one-day public holiday is not enough to celebrate the festival.

Jempol MP Shamshulkahar Deli said logistical factors and time constraints with a one-day public holiday made it hard for Muslims to return to their hometowns for Aidiladha.
KUALA LUMPUR:
A Barisan Nasional MP has called on the government to institute two days of public holidays nationwide for Hari Raya Aidiladha instead of just one currently.

Shamshulkahar Deli (BN-Jempol) said the current one-day public holiday for most of Malaysia was insufficient as it made it hard for those celebrating the festival to return to their hometowns for the occasion.

“The one-day holiday prevents many people from returning to their hometowns to perform the sacrificial rites and celebrate the festival in accordance with Islamic teachings due to logistical factors and time constraints,” he told the Dewan Rakyat.

Currently, only states like Kelantan and Terengganu have two days of public holidays for Aidiladha.
