Scoop reported MACC chief Azam Baki as saying bail was granted as the commission has yet to receive proper statements from those who provided funds to the association.
“Based on the information we received from MACC officials in Johor, the suspect was remanded for five days. He was granted bail today as the contributors have yet to come forward to provide both audio and written statements.
“We need their statements on the contributions made in order to reconcile the financial reports.
“It is standard procedure for us to release suspects on bail when no statements have been received from the contributors.
“However, the case is still under investigation. Once we receive the contributors’ statements, the suspect will be called back to assist in our investigation,” he said.
Azam said MACC expects to receive these statements within the next two to three days.
“The case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 (for the offence of providing false claims). We cannot comment further on the investigation or its potential outcome,” he said.
