PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested a suspect who is wanted for the murder of a female food vendor whose body was found by the riverbank near the Tanjung Lumpur bridge in Kuantan, Pahang, on Thursday.

Kuantan police chief Wan Zahari Wan Busu said the 53-year-old unemployed man was apprehended at a residential area in Kuala Terengganu at 5.30am, Bernama reported.

He said police also seized a ring, cash, clothing and documents to assist in the investigation.

Wan Zahari said police would submit a remand application for the suspect to the Kuantan magistrates’ court today to facilitate further investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman expressed gratitude to the Terengganu police for its help in locating and apprehending the suspect.

It was previously reported that the body of Norshamira Zainal, 37, was discovered by the riverbank near the Tanjung Lumpur Bridge. Further investigations revealed foul play.

Yahaya said yesterday that injury marks were found on her body and that her jewellery was missing.
