Zaliha said that the allocations, referred to as the prime minister’s special allocation, were meant to complement development funds under the five-year Malaysia Plan and were subject to the government’s financial capacity.
“For 2023 and 2024, each government MP in Peninsular Malaysia received RM1.7 million, while those in Sabah and Sarawak were allocated RM2.2 million,” she said in a written parliamentary reply to Salamiah Nor (PN-Termerloh).
Zaliha also said the provision and disbursement of the allocations adhered to existing policies and financial capacity.
“This allocation is not the only funding available for parliamentary constituency development as other funds, including development funds from other ministries and statutory bodies, such as the regional development board, also provide financial support,” she said.
“When combined, these allocations exceed the prime minister’s special allocation for parliamentary constituencies.”
Salamiah had also inquired about the distribution of office and management funds for opposition MPs, but Zaliha provided no details.
