PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has cleared three celebrities who were called in for investigations in the Op Sky probe.

They were found to have no involvement in managing any activities related to the financial consulting firm being probed for corruption and money laundering.

MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki said all three celebrities were called in solely as witnesses to assist in the investigation.

On Feb 6, MACC recorded statements from the three celebrities after records and statements obtained indicated they had received payments of up to RM400,000 over one to two years for endorsing the firm.

The anti-graft agency had opened an investigation following complaints about bribery involving banking institution officials who allegedly facilitated and approved personal loan applications for a financial consultancy firm.

To date, a total of 39 individuals have had their statements recorded to assist in the investigation.

MACC said it had frozen RM80 million in assets belonging to the company as part of its investigation into the syndicate.
