PETALING JAYA:
A 34-year-old man has been arrested by police on suspicion of illegal possession of a semi-automatic pistol and 30 nine-millimetre bullets.

Ampang Jaya police chief Azam Ismail said the cops were notified of an argument between the suspect and his 34-year-old girlfriend, a foreigner, at a condominium in Taman Cempaka on Saturday evening.

The woman told policemen who were sent to the scene that the suspect owned a gun and handed over a plastic packaging containing the 30 bullets. The couple was then arrested.

“The couple got into the argument because the boyfriend had a relationship with another woman.

“The suspect’s motive in possessing the weapon is still under investigation,” he said in a statement.

Azam said the man, a trader, has been remanded until Feb 12 while the woman was released on bail after a remand application was rejected by the Ampang magistrates’ court.

The case is being probed under Section 8 of the Arms Act 1960 for possession of firearms and ammunition without a licence or permit, an offence punishable by up to seven years in prison, a maximum RM10,000 fine, or both, if convicted.
