IPOH:
A car rental company worker pleaded not guilty in the magistrates’ court here today to severing a man’s wrist with a machete in June last year.

K Karan, 25, was charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm with a machete to L Nadesan, 30, at Jalan Institut Latihan Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia Sultan Azlan Shah in Tanjung Rambutan at about 11am on June 23, 2024.

He was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment, a fine and whipping upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor NM Morganraj Mithra requested bail to be set at RM15,000.

However, Karan’s lawyer, Kala Jeya Kumar, sought a minimum bail of RM5,000, saying his client only earns RM1,700 a month and is supporting his two younger siblings who are studying.

Magistrate Siti Nora Sharif granted bail of RM4,000 and set March 10 for next case mention.

It was reported on June 23 last year that a person’s wrist had been found near the scene of a car fire in front of Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Tanjung Rambutan.

A police investigation found that the victim had been attacked by nearly 20 men armed with sticks and machetes in a fight believed to be linked to a territorial dispute over drug trafficking activities.
