The ministry said a chemical analysis of fabric samples revealed non-compliance with the specifications of the contract entered into with Peluang Kristal (M) Sdn Bhd.
“The firm has been asked to provide a replacement of the fabric for the affected units under the ministry as a remedial step,” it said in a written Dewan Rakyat reply.
The ministry said it also issued a written reminder to Peluang Kristal that the ministry has the right to terminate the supply contract if the company fails to follow the specifications agreed upon.
The ministry was responding to Lim Guan Eng (PH-Bagan) who asked for updates on the action taken against the fabric supplier.
It was reported last November that the ministry was investigating claims by nurses that the fabric supplied for their uniforms under a RM98.3 million contract inked in 2023 was of poor quality.
The ministry said samples of the fabric were sent to the chemistry department for analysis to determine if they met contract specifications. The samples were also sent to the Standard and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia for specification verification.
It said a letter was also issued to Peluang Kristal seeking an explanation on the matter.
When debating the Supply Bill 2025 in the Dewan Rakyat last month, Lim spoke about the plight of government nurses who had allegedly received uniforms made of poor quality fabric.
The issue was initially raised by Senator Dr RA Lingeshwaran during an upper house sitting in September.
Complaints were made, among others, about the quality of the fabric which was said to be very coarse.
Some also complained that the uniforms made from the fabric turned yellow very quickly.
Peluang Kristal secured the contract for the supply of 17 fabric items to the ministry on July 23, 2023.
