Number of flood evacuees in Sabah, Sarawak continues to rise

In Sarawak, the number rose to 12,486 while in Sabah the total affected rose slightly to 5,216.

PETALING JAYA:
The number of flood evacuees in Sarawak and Sabah continued to rise as of 8am today.

In Sarawak, the number of evacuees rose to 12,486, up from 11,234 at 8pm yesterday, Bernama reported.

In Sabah, the number increased slightly from 5,195 to 5,216 this morning.

The Sarawak disaster management committee secretariat reported that Bintulu still has the highest number of flood victims, with 5,885, followed by Serian with 2,307, and Samarahan with 2,005 evacuated to temporary relief centres.

The number of evacuees is also rising in other districts, with Sibu recording 1,163, Miri (650) and Kuching (475).

In Sabah, the state disaster management committee secretariat said Kota Marudu still has the highest number of flood victims with 2,944 housed at temporary relief centres.

This is followed by Pitas with 806, Lahad Datu (514), Telupid (288), Paitan (238) and Kota Belud (207).

The other affected districts are Beaufort with 108 victims, Beluran (57), and Tongod (54).
