Kelantan Umno information chief Zawawi Othman said his party’s priority is addressing the people’s concerns, while seat allocations will be decided by the party leadership at the appropriate time.
“Amanah’s confidence in Kelantan is a positive thing, especially with their ambition to secure more than 10 seats.
“Umno will not be easily rattled by what Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said at their convention. It’s important for us to maintain composure.
“Negotiations will be based on each party’s performance. For now, our focus remains on addressing the people’s issues,” he told FMT.
He was asked if Kelantan Umno would consider making way for Amanah, following Mohamad’s remarks that the party could win more than 10 seats in the next state election.
In the previous polls, Amanah contested seven seats and won only Kota Lama, while Umno secured Galas. In the 2024 Nenggiri by-election, Umno’s wrested the state seat from PAS.
PAS continues to dominate the state assembly with the remaining 42 seats it holds.
Mohamad, better known as Mat Sabu, earlier said his confidence in Amanah’s potential stems from the party’s unity and the prospect of effective seat distribution.
He said while the likes of Umno and PAS – two of the country’s largest Malay-Muslim parties – made it challenging for Amanah, it should leverage on the fact that Perikatan Nasional is no longer in control of Putrajaya.
