The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested a former director of a Sabah state agency yesterday for allegedly soliciting and receiving RM110,000 in bribes.

The man, who is in his 50s, was arrested at around 2.30pm while he was at the MACC office in Kota Kinabalu to provide a statement, reported Bernama.

A source said the man is believed to have solicited bribes from several companies that were awarded contracts by his agency.

The suspect is also believed to have received bribes in the form of goods such as laptops, smartphones, tablets, electric guitars, gym equipment, car accessories, washing machines and payments for the purchase of motorcycles.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have engaged in the act (of bribery) early last year,” said the source.

“He is also believed to have requested bribes for officers under his supervision.”
