Kosmo reported that judge DJP Suria Kumar pronounced the sentence after the court found the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt against the charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
In his judgment, Suria Kumar said Huzairi Razali, 39, also failed to prove he was legally not of sound mind at the time of the incident.
“The court finds you guilty of murdering two men. As such, you are sentenced to death by hanging,” he said.
A total of 18 prosecution witnesses were called during the trial.
Under the first charge, Huzairi was accused of murdering Ku Cheng Liong @ Ku Sot, 71, at a coffee shop on Jalan Abdullah, Pekan Buloh Kasap, Segamat, Johor, at 5.50pm on July 12, 2019.
Huzairi had slashed Ku while the latter was having a drink at the coffee shop. He died instantly.
Under the second charge, he was accused of murdering Ng Wan Hong, 67, in front of a durian shop on Jalan Ibrahim, Buloh Kasap, at 6.03pm on the same day.
Police rushed to the location after receiving information on the first murder.
They saw Huzairi fighting with Ng in front of his durian shop. Ng, who was selling the durians, fell and Huzairi then stabbed him in the chest.
Police managed to apprehend Huzairi, taking him to the police station for further action.
