Highway firm’s COO charged over RM70,000 bribe

Rostam Shahrif Tami, who has been placed on garden leave, is charged with receiving a bribe to award SUKE work packages to a company.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The chief operating officer of a highway concessionaire was charged at the sessions court here today with soliciting and accepting a RM70,000 bribe.

Rostam Shahrif Tami, 59, the COO of Prolintas Group, claimed trial after the charge was read before judge Rosli Ahmad.

Rostam, who is on garden leave, was charged with receiving the bribe from a representative of Satunas Technologies Sdn Bhd to award work packages for the Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Elevated Expressway (SUKE) to the company.

He is accused of committing the offence on April 12, 2023, at the parking lot of Masjid Ibnu Mas’ud in Kampung Datuk Keramat here.

Rostam was charged under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009. If convicted, he faces up to 20 years’ imprisonment and a minimum fine of RM10,000.

The court set bail at RM60,000 and ordered Rostam to surrender his passport and report to the nearest MACC office every month.

Rostam was represented by lawyer Dzulkifli Ahmad while deputy public prosecutor Nor Diana Nor Azwa prosecuted.
