The national registration department’s enforcement chief, Khairu Farhad Saad, said the suspect was arrested yesterday during an operation with the immigration department in Kuantan, Pahang.

The woman, 36, was arrested at her home in Kampung Kempadang. Checks found that she was originally from Medan, Indonesia, Sinar Harian reported.

“The woman possessed two documents, namely a legitimate Indonesian passport and a Malaysian identification card with false details.

“The woman is suspected to have gained possession of someone else’s birth certificate by purchasing it from an agent for RM8,000 before obtaining the MyKad,” Khairu said.

The case is being probed under Regulation 25 of the National Registration Regulations, which provides for a maximum three years in prison, a fine of up to RM20,000, or both, upon conviction.
