Wisma Putra confirms 8 students hurt in Egypt road crash

The foreign ministry says five sustained minor injuries while three others have been hospitalised.

PETALING JAYA:
The foreign ministry has confirmed that eight Malaysian students from Al-Azhar University were involved in a road accident while travelling to Port Said yesterday.

Wisma Putra said it is monitoring the situation to ensure the students’ safety and well-being through the Malaysian embassy in Cairo and Education Malaysia Egypt (EME).

It said officers from EME visited the students at As Salam Port Said Hospital to provide assistance and assess their condition.

“Five of the students sustained minor injuries and were treated as outpatients,” it said in a statement today.

“The remaining three, who are currently under observation, will be transferred to Sayed Galal Hospital in Cairo for continued care.”

The incident was first reported on EME’s Facebook page.

The three students who were hospitalised were identified as Zafri Abdul Rasyid, Sulhi Nazri and Rais Zafran Shuhaimi.

The five who sustained minor injuries are Firdaus Yacob, Adli Fitri Anuar, Shahrul Aiman Jaafar, Zulfiqar Ahmad Tarmizi and Hazieq Badrisyah Norhamedon.
