PETALING JAYA:
Sports associations have been urged to reduce politicking during their elections for office-bearers by  youth and sports minister Hannah Yeoh.

Yeoh said elections held during the AGMs of sports associations should be conducted fairly and transparently, Bernama reported.

She said persistent politicking could negatively impact the development and performance of athletes and their coaches.

“Politics should stay with political parties. Sports associations should focus on sports activities,” she said at the Netball Super League 2025 Clinic organised by Astro at Universiti Tenaga Nasional near here today.

She was commenting on the selection of candidates for the president’s post of the Kuala Lumpur Hockey Association.

Allegations were made that nomination documents were forged.

Yeohh said accusations during AGMs or elections in sports associations were not unusual. She said the sports commissioner or the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission may become involved if wrongdoing is proven.

The NSL clinic today attracted 149 secondary school students, aged 13 to 17, from around the country.
