PETALING JAYA:
The government is exploring a win-win solution involving all stakeholders on the issue of local white rice supply and padi purchase prices.

Agriculture and food security minister Mohamad Sabu said more time is needed for a thorough engagement with all parties before a comprehensive resolution can be announced, Bernama reported.

“For us, the interests of consumers, farmers, millers and distributors all need to be protected as they all play a role. This is why we are conducting more extensive engagements.

“We will also discuss with the National Action Council on Cost of Living (Naccol), chaired by the prime minister. With his approval, we will implement the necessary changes,” he said after officiating the Amanah National Convention 2024 in Klang today.

Mohamad said he was prepared to address all questions regarding the issue in Parliament.

“We will try to find a way to satisfy all parties,” he said, adding that discussions will be held with Naccol on prices for padi and rice.
