The ministry said checks found that the “Apple S” candy contained sibutramine, a drug used to control appetite which directly affects the brain.
The chemical reportedly disrupts heart functions and causes other side effects such as dry lips, nausea, and constipation.
The ministry said the product did not comply with the labelling requirements of the Food Regulations 1985 as it failed to include manufacturing, packaging, and distribution details.
“Vendors are ordered to immediately stop the sale of the product and contact the nearest district health office, while online advertisements of the product must be taken down.
“Members of the public using the product are advised to immediately stop consuming the candy and seek medical advice from healthcare professionals,” it said in a statement.
