PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has nabbed two military personnel on suspicion of submitting false trainee allowance claims amounting to RM25,733.59 two years ago.

The magistrates’ court in Ayer Keroh allowed the duo to be remanded for six days starting today, Berita Harian reported.

According to a source from MACC, the suspects were detained after giving their statements at the Melaka MACC office at 5.20pm yesterday.

The source said the remand was to facilitate investigations into falsified claims for allowances involving trainees who did not attend annual training at an army camp in Muar, Johor.

Melaka MACC director Adi Supian Shafie confirmed the arrests when contacted.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009, which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and a fine of five times the value of the false claims or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
