PETALING JAYA: The magistrates’ court in Kuala Lumpur today fined a scrap metal collector RM250 after he pleaded guilty to trespassing by jumping onto the track at an LRT station yesterday.
Wong Han Chuan, 43, was ordered to pay the fine by magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin or face three weeks in jail, if he fails to pay the fine, Bernama reported.
He was charged under Section 62 of the Railways Act 1991, which provides a fine of up to RM500, upon conviction.
Wong committed the act at the Chan Sow Lin LRT Station at 3.35pm yesterday.
During mitigation, lawyer Simret Singh from the National Legal Aid Foundation, representing Wong, said his client is still single, has no fixed income and collects scrap metal for recycling.
The prosecution was handled by deputy public prosecutor Hench Goh.
