Transport ministry eyes system integration for used motorcycle transactions

Minister says while JPJ has strategic partnerships to facilitate car ownership transfers, there is no such system for motorcycles.

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said JPJ will only be allowed to share certain data if a tie-up with Rider Gate on the purchase and sale of used motorcycles can be established.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The transport ministry is set to hold discussions with the road transport department (JPJ) about the possibility of linking its system to a private platform for buying and selling used motorcycles.

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said while JPJ has strategic partnerships with private companies to facilitate car ownership transfers, there is no equivalent system for motorcycles.

He was speaking to the media after launching Rider Gate, the first platform in Malaysia designed to streamline the sale and purchase of pre-owned motorcycles.

“We will discuss with JPJ whether its MySikap system can be integrated to assist with these transactions (on Rider Gate),” he said.

Loke said JPJ will only be allowed to share certain data if a tie-up with Rider Gate can be established.

He said platforms like Rider Gate can address long-standing issues such as fraud, unclear ownership records, and concerns about mechanical defects in used motorcycle transactions.

Developed by Ramssol Group, Rider Gate launched with more than 150 registered dealers. It aims to expand its network to more than 800 dealers within a year.

The MySikap platform is an online service which allows users to manage various road transport-related services and transactions electronically, promoting convenience and reducing the need for in-person visits to JPJ offices.

It allows users to renew vehicle road tax and driver’s licences, apply for driving licences or vehicle registrations, check and update vehicle details, view driving records such as traffic offenses, and payments for road transport services.
