PETALING JAYA:
National men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik became the fourth pair to be knocked out in the semi-finals of the India Open, making it a miserable day for Malaysia in New Delhi today.

Only men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani are still in the hunt in the other semi-final but it will be an uphill battle as they are up against home pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty.

World No 5 pair Aaron-Wooi Yik lost to South Korea’s Kim Won Ho-Seo Seung Jae in straight games of 20-22,19-21.

The unranked South Korean pair, who were playing for only the second time as partners, took 41 minutes to defeat the Malaysian duo, whose loss was a repeat of their failure last year also in the semi-final of the same tournament.

Earlier, mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai and Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei as well as women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah lost their semi-final matches.

Aaron-Wooi Yik will take home US$13,300 (RM59,000) as semi-finalists.
