An MACC source said two of the suspects were bank officers while the other two were former officers. The suspects, two men and two women in their 20s and 30s, were detained at 4pm yesterday while giving their statements at MACC’s headquarters.
They have been placed under remand until Jan 22, Bernama reported, while the remand order for five other men previously detained was extended to Jan 21.
“MACC received several complaints and information regarding bribery activities involving banking institution officers who facilitated and approved personal loan applications for a financial consultancy company.
“These officers are believed to have received bribes from the firm, which prepared documents that are believed to have contained false information about clients applying for personal loans,” said the source.
MACC chief Azam Baki confirmed the arrest of the four suspects. He said seven others who were under remand since Wednesday have been released on MACC bail.
