PETALING JAYA:
Gerakan intends to change the political narrative in Malaysia from a focus on race and religion to one centred on “universal concerns”.

Gerakan president Dominic Lau said this would cover the interests of Malaysia’s society regardless of race or religion, adding that his party would focus on eight key issues.

They are the economy, education, health, good governance, cultural harmony, digital transformation, security and peace, as well as youth empowerment and employment.

“We will no longer focus on religious or ethnic issues, which the people are tired of discussing,” he said at a press conference today.

Lau also announced the appointment of Gerakan Youth chief Wong Chia Zen as the party’s new secretary-general, saying the top leadership unanimously agreed on this.

Wong replaces Loh Kah Yong, who remains a member of Gerakan’s central committee.
