French pair break Malaysian hearts at India Open semis

A third disappointment for Malaysia as mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei are knocked out.

National mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei became the third pair to be knocked out in the semi-finals of the India Open today, losing to French pair Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue.

The defeat in straight games of 17-21,15-21 ended the good run Tang Jie-Ee Wei have had in New Delhi. The French pair were in complete control throughout the 41-minute match, forcing the world No 3 Malaysian pair into numerous errors.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei previously won three of their five encounters with Thom-Delphine.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei will take home US$13,300 (RM59,000) as semi-finalists.

Earlier, mixed doubles shuttlers Goh Soon Huat-Shevon Jemie Lai and women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah also lost their semi-final matches.

In the mixed doubles final, Thom-Delphine will take on Jiang Zhen Bang-Wei Ya Xin who defeated Malaysians Soon Huat-Shevon in the other semi-final match.
