PETALING JAYA:
Former PKR senator Ismail Yusop has been appointed as the director-general of the community communications department, better known as J-Kom.

Ismail is also the deputy director-general of Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia, Berita Harian reported.

The former one-term senator fills the post left vacant since September last year after former Paya Jaras assemblyman Khairuddin Othman was removed.

Khairuddin, also of PKR, had been appointed director-general of J-Kom in March 2024, and only served in the position for six months.

There had been rumours that his sacking was tied to internal politics within PKR, with some members claiming that the Selangor PKR secretary’s removal was linked to feuds among factions within the state chapter.

Khairuddin had replaced Agus Yusoff, who resigned in November 2023 amid controversy surrounding an alleged lewd conversation between him and another man.
