Pearly-Thinaah in last 8 of India Open after injury stops Chinese pair

PETALING JAYA:
National women’s doubles shuttlers Pearly Tan-M Thinaah moved to the quarter-finals of the India Open today after their Chinese opponents conceded a walkover.

The Malaysian world No 7 pair were leading 14-4 after six minutes of play when a leg injury forced Jia Yi Fan-Zhang Shu Xian to retire.

In the quarter-finals tomorrow, Pearly-Thinaah will meet Japan’s 53rd ranked pair Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto who defeated India’s world No 22 Tanisha Crasto-Ashwini Ponnappa in another match.

Yuki-Mayu won the Malaysia Open title last week while Pearly-Thinaah were knocked out in the opening round.
