Those found importing or exporting more than 500gm of cannabis or 250gm of methamphetamine to or from Singapore may face the death penalty.

A Malaysian man was arrested at Singapore’s Woodlands checkpoint on Tuesday after he was found with about 4.6kg of cannabis and more than 500gm of methamphetamine.

Singapore’s Immigration and Checkpoints Authority said its officers checked a motorcycle ridden by the 21-year-old man and found a black bundle in its front fairing (a shell placed over the frame).

The officers uncovered about 4,648gm of cannabis, 542gm of methamphetamine and 250 Erimin-5 tablets concealed in various parts of the Malaysia-registered motorcycle.

The ICA said the drugs were valued at more than S$169,000 (RM556,400).

Under Singaporean law, those found importing or exporting more than 500gm of cannabis or 250gm of methamphetamine may face the death penalty.
