PETALING JAYA:
Police have arrested six more people in connection with a travel agency accused of failing to fly out a group of umrah pilgrims on Tuesday.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the suspects, aged between 24 and 48, including two women, are employees of the company.

The six, together with a married couple arrested yesterday, have been remanded for three days to assist in the investigation.

“Further investigations are being conducted to identify the method used by the company and the parties involved,” he said, according to Utusan Malaysia.

Yesterday, Hussein said the couple, both 31, were arrested after his department received a police report in Sepang on a case of umrah fraud involving the agency.

The complainant, a 39-year-old woman, reported losses amounting to RM11,000.

He said an early investigation found that the suspects would enlist prospective pilgrims through advertisements on the company’s TikTok account.

Further checks found that 379 victims had dealt with the company and were also stranded on the same date, involving estimated total losses of RM2.1 million.

He also said the agency started operations two years ago and moved to a three-storey building in Sepang last October.
