More flood victims evacuated in Johor

The number of evacuees rose by 110 to 3,869 tonight, with the bulk in Kota Tinggi.

KUALA LUMPUR:
The number of flood victims seeking shelter at relief centres in Johor has increased, while the situation in Perak remains stable.

The number of evacuees in Johor rose by 110 to 3,869 at 8pm, while in Perak the number remained unchanged at 31.

The Johor disaster management committee said the evacuees are in 37 relief centres in Kota Tinggi (1,262 victims), Johor Bahru (774), Kulai (735), Pontian (568), and Kluang (530).

Rain is forecast for Johor Bahru, Mersing, Pontian and Kota Tinggi tonight, while six other districts in the state are expected to remain cloudy.

The Perak irrigation and drainage department said the water level in Sungai Rui in Hulu Perak was at the alert level of 165.43m, while Johor officials said the water level at Sungai Kahang remained above the danger level but trending downward.
